Ficitonal Home Near Camp Pendleton
We find homes for Marines and other military families as well as investors and friends and family. But my web contact a few weeks ago from a woman in England wanted a home of a different sort: a fictional home.
She is writing a novel about a fictional US Marine who would be stationed near a base like Camp Pendleton. She knows several Marines just like her fictional Marine, so they can tell her all sorts of things. But she needed to find her fictional Marine a home near Camp Pendleton, so ... she googled, of course!
We've become fast friends. In three emails, she was given some long descriptions of five areas that would be "wooded and secluded and less than 45 minutes from Camp Pendleton." This turned into a fun project that involved searching all our real estate resources and even a phone call to a good friend who owns a hilly avocado orchard with a manufactured home north of Fallbrook, just inside the border to the De Luz area of Temecula.
The fictional Marine had to be able to afford his housing on his military pay. My team role among others for my husband at Sand to Sea Properties is to do loans, many VA loans. So I booted up the software and plugged in his base pay, housing allowance (BAH) and subsistence allowance (BAS), based on the rank of the fictional Marine and his years of service - that's how military pay is calculated for VA loans. I explained to the author that he could afford to buy that manufactured home in that avocado grove using recent comparable sales and comparing to what monthly payment he could afford.
I have since found out some details about what could be used for splints from a Humvee driver friend and client of ours, how an injured Marine comes back from active duty and what ribbons or medals are worn at a funeral at Arlington National Cemetary.
The author is now a friend, and she has offered to let me read a draft. It's exciting, what opportunities are out there! Thank you, ActiveRain and google!
